The transponder key, in essence, is a key that is equipped with a transmitter code that is etched and one that transmits an alpha-numeric code that is unique to one’s ignition.
Whenever this code is received, the transponder that is located inside the ignition then commands the car to start.
With such a job to perform, programming a transponder key or reprogramming it might depend on the overall makeup as well as the model of the car.
Domestic cars, for instance, with a vehicle identification number that begins with one or 4, can be reprogrammed by just taking the keys out to the vehicle and going into program mode.
To guide you, here are some steps on transponder key programming:
Step One
Step into your vehicle and then place the key into the ignition.
Turn the ignition on.
Leave it for about ten minutes and a half.
Step Two
Before the 45 seconds is over, simply turn the key back to turn off the ignition.
Afterward, turn it back to the on positions and wait another ten minutes and a half.
Step Three
Do the steps above once more by means of turning the ignition off again within the 45-second mark.
Then, turn the key off and then turn it back on.
The key has now been programmed.
To check whether it has worked, simply turn the ignition on.
In transponder key programming, one method is not always enough.
If the above steps do not work for you, then try the other steps below.
Step One
Place the transponder key on the ignition and then turn the ignition on.
Allow the ignition to stay like that for ten minutes and 25 seconds.
Make sure that you pay enough attention to the dash.
When you utilize the key to turn the ignition on, the security light of the vehicle should be able to light up.
If the security light does not light up, it means that there might be something wrong with the battery of the vehicle.
For that, you can either charge or eventually replace the battery.
Step Two
After the security light has been turned on, it should be kept like that for fifteen minutes.
It is best to make use of a stopwatch or a clock in order to track the time that is required for the process.
In order to successfully complete this process, you will have to be cautious of the time.
Observe it well.
Step Three
Once the 15 minutes have passed, the security light should automatically go off.
In a span of just three minutes, the ignition must be turned off through the means of turning off the transponder key to that direction and then turning it back again towards the direction of ‘on’.
The security light should be able to light on once again and be kept like that for 15 minutes before it goes off again.
Step Four
After the security light has been turned off again, in three minutes, the key must be turned to the off direction and be turned towards the on direction once again.
The security light must come on once more for another 15 minutes before it goes off.
Once the security light automatically turns off after a time, it should have completed a whole 45 minutes.
Then your new transponder key has been programmed to your car.
After the steps above have been completed, the transponder key should now be programmed.
You are now able to turn on the engine using your key and drive the car.
After the transponder key has been programmed, it is best if you have it duplicated for safety purposes.
